What Gives You Strength?

 

Me, myself & I is all I need

That's what I've always thought

& That's what I made myself believe

Strength is a word that I don't know

A word that is a joke

To you, I lie

I say I am strong

When you see me

Can you see what's wrong?

I am there to listen

I am there to talk

You can count on me to give you strength

& To make you believe that you are

You give me strength when I want to cry

When I want to die

All I have to do is look at your caring hearted eyes

And all of a sudden my tear filled eyes are no more

When you smile

My spirit goes from way down low to way up high

'Til I realize the sky is no longer the limit

I no longer have to win it 

Because you're five months old

And yet the way you look at me tells it all

That you're going to grow to be small

But in my eyes, you'll be the one who's tall

I'll teach you right from wrong

 But it's you who will have the tolerance

To give me the chance to love and be loved

The way you look at me turns clouds that were once gray

 To a sun-filled day

I feel like I'm free

But somehow I'm still after me

 That's when I look at you knowing my strength

Can't be cut in two

That my confidence can reach the sky

'Til it can't be broken by the best of lies

When I flow

I free my soul body and mind

The latter I climb

Now I'm floating in time

Soaring through space

Swimming in words through pages

Like a nerdy librarian

Flying to a different planet

Call me ancient Sumarian

Ahead of my age by centuries

My time machine broke

So I'm stuck writing these rhymes

The only way I can cope

I give myself the strength that's needed

Nothing can match the satisfaction

Of my pen busting 

My ink penetrating the paper

Going straight to the guts

Seeing my strength comes from the Bible

My mic is my Christ

It gets rid of the small itches

Like picking out lice

Surrounded by sad faces

I find strength

I find strength in your weakness

To pass one when you're hopeless

When you're on your knees

I'll make you feel like Hercules

Strength isn't given, it's borrowed

Returned to you through your sorrows

So you can have a better tomorrow

Little hands

How his stubby little legs look when he stands

He is my strength

The reason I strive for better

Motivation, it's high
